Tips for a successful long-distance wedding planning

Are you getting married away from your home country? Like any other local weddings, you just don’t show up on your big day. There is a whole lot of planning that goes into your special day and even from afar, you can make it happen without stressing too much over details. One may think that not being physically there to oversee the details will bring more stress but know that stressing will not get you anywhere.  I am privileged to have photographed hundreds of destination weddings in Seychelles and Mauritius. Each of them involved planning from afar and the good news is that it all worked out fine and many brides, over 70 %, say that a destination wedding actually lowers the stress level.

When planning a destination wedding, first thing is to inform and familiarize yourself with the law and order of the chosen destination. Planning on your own will prove to be extra challenging. For this reason, it is way better to contact a wedding planner who will help in administrative arrangements but also in the preparation of the special day. She will provide you with the list of different vendors and can also look into accommodation. Many destination wedding resort have coordinators assigned to plan your wedding in the way you will like it to be. You might not be able to see everything live as it comes to completion or speak to your vendors directly to settle the plans but the wedding consultant will relieve you from the stress of long-distance. She will be in regular communication with you to make sure that your needs are met. Her first goal is to honor your wishes. She will coordinate all of the odds and ends and will guide you towards the best vendors, the ones that meet your budget and expectations. Trust her suggestions.

One important thing to remember is not to agree to anything without seeing it from afar. Most vendors now have a website where you can browse their portfolios. Your wedding coordinator will also fully communicate with you and send photos. It may also help to forward the photos of things you like to your vendors. It will help them to know more precisely what you want but you also need to be flexible and work with what’s available at destination. Settle accommodation and transportation details before traveling. Last but not least, travel to your wedding location a week before the big day. You then have time to meet the vendors in person and bring some last minute changes.
