Getting married in the rain is one of the last things the bride and groom want for their special day. But through time, I have learned as a wedding photographer, that sometimes the more you prepare for such situation, the happier you are. If we believe the good old song, you will agree that it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day.
One of my favorite things about shooting in the rain is how the photos all come out full of emotions and romance. I love black and white photography in such weather but I also find the colors of the clouds magnificent. Clouds can make a dramatic background for wedding photos. I always make sure to have some great accessories such as umbrellas with me.
If I had one advice for you it will be about interviewing your photographer. When choosing your wedding photographer, make sure to ask him if he knows how to handle the rain, to manage the lighting and techniques in rainy and cloudy situations. At the very beginning of my career, I remember being a bit worried about the grey weather. I was not worried about my ability to capture good photos but more about the idea that the weather will steal the joy of the bride and groom. I could not have been more wrong!
When the weather is rainy, it’s essential to keep smiling to bring colors to the photos and to make this unexpected situation work. Thankfully, for all the rainy weddings I had the privilege to photograph, I could see the love shining through the clouds.
If you are having a beach wedding, make sure you have a back-up plan for your ceremony and reception. Stay positive, all you need is a sense of adventure. Rain is in the forecast? Embrace the weather and let your wedding photos tell the story of your big day.
